Susan grew up in Princeton, Illinois, and attended the University of Wisconsin/Madison, where she graduated with a BA in Radio & TV Production. She spent 13 years in Chicago, where she became the Senior VP/Media Director of an ad agency owned by Ogilvy & Mather. In 1979 she took up photography when she planned a photographic safari to Kenya, East Africa. For that trip she bought a Canon AE-1, a 28mm wide angle lens, a 75–205mm zoom lens, and a ton of slide film. What an unforgettable trip that was!
Since that time she and her husband, Elliot, spent 25 years in California, where she continued in the advertising industry. They also owned a Deck The Walls store, where they designed and produced very stylish custom frames for their clientele. They moved to Sun City in July of 2008 and have not looked back. She continued working for a CA ad agency for two more years after moving here, via cable modem and phone, and retired just a year ago. One of the first things she did is join the Photography Club, and has enjoyed field trips, meetings and SIGs, and the social activities. She now has a Nikon D60, and mostly uses a Nikkor 18-200mm zoom lens because it’s so versatile. Animals are still a favorite subject, as they can be terrific models – beautiful, humorous, touching, or just plain cute.
The Cohens enjoy golfing together, plus Susan belongs to the Women’s 9-Hole group. They also like to have small dinner parties, and enjoy traveling to their time-share in Kaui where they’ll be returning for a week in September.
