The Sun City Texas Photography Club provides education and training in many different forms. This section describes the opportunities in the Workshops and Education department. You will find additional opportunities to learn by attending our monthly meetings, participating in SIG meetings, exploring with field trips, and enjoying the many exhibitions of our work. Don't forget that the library in the studio, under the direction of librarian Jim Amaral, offers many books and DVDs that may be of particular interest to you!
How do you learn of new workshops and education opportunities? The newsletter, meeting announcements, and the club calendar are your most vital links. When you see an item of interest on the calendar, click on the name in the date square to get more information in a fly-out box.
Also watch the newsletter and other announcements for information about opportunities outside the club. We try to share information about events in other Sun City clubs and in the general area. This sharing is not an endorsement of any event, but a service to our membership.
This course, beginning in March 2010, uses Digital Photography Simplified (c) 2008 by Rob Sheppard as the text book. The course provides a complete photography overview starting with the camera settings going right on through printing your images. There are 12 classes each covering one section in the text. There are also homework and practice sessions. There is no limitation on the type of camera the student uses. See the January 2010 newsletter (in the newsletter archive) for more details. (The next class is filled with an extensive waiting list.)
The on-going series, The Doctor Is In workshops are conducted by your fellow photography club members and held in the studio. The Doctor Is In workshops are informal chances for you to get one-on-one assistance and suggestions to help improve your photography. Bring your images (print or on flash drive or CD) for personal consultation. Bring your questions about photo-editing, your camera's settings, or anything else photographic and the doctor will try to help. Consult the club calendar for times and dates.
Fundamentals of Photographic Optics -- Preregistration Required
April 13, 2010 Tuesday 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Fundamentals of Photographic Optics is a workshop designed for all levels of photographers. Led by Marty Shelton, a long-time photographer and a 1952 graduate of the Naval School of Photography, attendees will explore the primary characteristics of light and lenses. Attendees must bring their cameras, pen and paper, and a hand-held calculator as this will be a workshop where they will need to do some work. A comprehensive, illustrated booklet with an inclusive list of definitions and references will be given to each participant. Accordingly, it is important that those planning to attend pre-register with the VP of Workshops and Education at workshops@sctxphotographyclub.org .
