Since moving to Georgetown from our first retirement in Mexico five-and-a-half years ago, I have developed passions that were previously only casual interests. Included are photography, woodworking and gardening. The bug bit most infectiously in photography.

It all began as a teen-ager in the suburbs of Montreal Canada with a Kodak Brownie Hawkeye. While at university, I graduated to a Canon SLR, which was mainly used for family photographs – thousands of them!  As the nest emptied, the camera gradually came to rest in a drawer.  Three years ago, I acquired a neglected digital camera from a relative and that ignited an interest in photographing the world as I see it

Currently I enjoy serving as Sun City Photography Club president, having served most recently as Exhibits VP.  I have participated in many exhibits and one-man shows in the area.

In real life I am married to Rosemary Barrett Byers, who is a musician and stage director.  My three daughters and four grandchildren are distributed around the country.  For many years I was a research chemical engineer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Other assignments include research for Merichem in Houston, work on instant photography at Polaroid and a professorship at the University of Rochester.  Now we travel when we can, and enjoy the area when we can’t!
